I do think a lot of sims 4s limits are from smaller budget. It’s sad that their budget was cut and they had to take shortcuts to make a decent game. I don’t miss the open world necessarily because of the issues it caused but I wouldn’t say no to it in a future sims game. I don’t think it’s possible with sims 4 though in any capacity. My loading screens are maybe 10 seconds so I could care less about them, but I get why people would rather not have them.
I do think come sims 5 if and when it happens they need to optimize it better. Open world has potential in a sims series if done correctly. Not saying 3 was done terribly but to me it added limits to the game as well. I hated you couldn’t travel between worlds and I still do when I play. Sims 4 may have smaller worlds but at least you don’t have to move or start a new game to see them all. I’d like that to change in a future open world in sims. I want to visit all worlds without constrictions. Also routing has to be better it’s what caused build up and lag for a lot of simmers because things got stuck. I personally have had lag on gaming computers with sims 3 and had to install mods to fix it. I shouldn’t be forced to install mods to play a game.
So in conclusion sims 4 not likely for open world but if they were to do it again at any point it needs to be done better. Sims 3 open worlds were far from perfect and they started to ruin the game for me in the end. It’s one of the reasons I prefer sims 4. May be buggy but at least it’s better optimized overall. Or I feel it is at least with my experience. Stimulation lag is nothing comparing to actual game lag. Which I had massively (like in sunset valley even, really jumpy and slow camera movement) on a brand new gaming computer until I installed mods to fix it. Love sims 3 still I just wish it ran better for me. I never have luck running it no matter the computer. Sims 4 runs like butter.
But here’s hoping for better future open worlds. Honestly I’d be happy with whatever direction the next series takes. I just want a great game :).
