Improving Selfie Quality

The missing progress bar could be a mod issue. A few patches ago the No gnomes in photos mod broke and as a result my sims couldn't level up their photography skill anymore (or acquire it when they didn't have it already).

Get an actual camera, not the phone. Buy the 2000 simoleon one if you can. That will put up the skill and overall get better quality photos. Plus you can do alot more zooming in and out and change the size of the photograph. To use the camera, you need to click on it from inventory.

Since when were shots taken by the sims with their phones visible to players? Which is what it sounds like here.

I can frame mine and hang them on the wall.

If you take a photo with the phone, it goes into inventory like with the camera. Honestly, I've only used that to boost the 'friendship' thing. Then go to inventory and sell the phone photos right away to get rid of the clutter.
The camera on the other hand, I usually keep one of any that is outstanding quality. If the picture actually looks good too.
The selfie, take photo of, and take photo together, all gets copied from the game and goes to the screenshot folder. Which is actually quite irritating after taking a whole bunch of photos. Yet the 'take photo' doesn't.

The only aura moods that can be taken with photos that I've seen is 'confident' and 'flirty'. Otherwise I take photos more for having a bit of history in my game.

Going to your original comment, I'm thinking you mean an NPC taking a photo. No, that's just animation. It has to be you controlling a sim directly to take a photo that is actually recorded.

the aura's are fun! I did see playful too. But it's not in selfie mode, just 'take photo of' mode

My controlled sims frequently take selfies when out with friends on their own. If I ever directed them to it's been so long ago I've forgotten. I've always thought it just another animation.

There are two ways to take a selfie, one that is a real picture and one that isn't. I know the one that takes a real picture you access by clicking on the phone (entertainment tab), but I think the one that's just an animation might be from the interaction menu when you click on another sim.

Yeah, there are two ways to take selfies with phone. Social is for just sharing on social media, and the one in Entertainment actually can go on the wall, but only as the smallest version, I think.

I didn't know there was any visual difference between blurry and clear? I can tell by the value if a photo is great or not, but to me they all look the same. Starters get random blur/finger/gnome, but if taking 5 pictures of a motive, even my beginners are able to produce 1 that looks okay.

Besides, higher values will raise your weekly bills, right? I normally keep the most valuable photo, but I think it would be wiser keeping the lowest value :)
