In defense of rabbit holes

I never understood why people complained about rabbit holes in TS3 because previous to that, it was one huge rabbit hole - disappearing off the side of the screen. At least going to the building and being able to have them leave before the work shift was over was a step up from what we had.
I would like to have actually shopped at the grocery and book stores, but I could only imagine how much harder it would have run PCs to open anything else in the neighborhood. I would rather have a playable game than screech about fading into a building for a short duration.

TS2 has no problems with live stores of all types, restaurants, clubs and the like. During my brief time with TS3 eveything was a rabbit hole. I can understand that for concerts, the circus, athletic events and such - but to stock up on groceries or have lunch?

Other games have moved forward a lot since sims3 (2009), so I like to believe that life simulator games should move forward too. Loading times with textures loading and things processing are basically a thing of the past for many games now like Action-and Adventure games. That's because those developers invested in optimizing and improving their games.

If people still want rabbit holes that's fine but I don't think performance should be the reason. I like to think that we can solve these problems in 2020.

It's more a matter of will than capability. All one needs to do is 'window shop' at TSR to see what can be done in the stuff realm. If the improvement is so great there, surely the advances in operations should be similar. I don't play other games, but what I see in advertising is quite impressive on how far games have come.

Ts2 had loading screens .The lots we're separated, and loaded by loading screen.That is different from having all lots active by once.Than have one lot activates by loading screen.
The only rabbit holes were career base, or slash store.
City hall.
Police station
School
Science center
Hospital
Army
Theater
Grocery store, book star, and spa.They were bistro you can eat outside.Lot of sims 2 active lots came in expansion packs.Sims 2 careers in the base game they disappear.Then came back.How is this different from rabbit holes in the Sims 2?Except for the grocery store

I'm not a hugr fan of rabbit holes. I do hope we would have less. But this is another simulation game saying it's impossible to make all lots active. I think if five was an open world. We probably have less than 3.By understanding how certain stuff probably needs to be rabbit hole for the base game.Maybe open up latter.

I like that TS4 opened up a few rabbit holes from TS3, like the restaurant or spa. What I don't really need are open grocery stores and the likes, just because I personally would be really bored by watching my sim going to the grocery store every week to buy their food. If it was an option and we would still be able to just purchase directly from the fridge, it would be fine by me, but if you would literally run out of food without buying it at the store, no thanks. I know it's supposed to be a "life simulator", but this doesn't mean every single mundane part of life has to be in it.

I am also not a huge fan of active careers, to be honest. I know many people would like to see more of them, but I personally prefer to just send my sims off alone and I am really disappointed that you have to join your sim on their job in atleast some of the active careers to even get a promotion.

All in all, I like rabbit holes for careers, grocery and book stores and the likes. More "exciting" things like restaurants or arcades should be open though.

The problem with rabbit holes was that you were running around the world map like a headless chicken only to then stop and wait in front of a building. I don't see the gameplay in that, it breaks the immersion in the story when you have this beautiful world and then you can't go anywhere, it's like a dead end. I don't know why it was never an option to open them up in the manner of active careers, where you have the option to either follow your sim to work or do a text adventure. They could have an open world for TS5 for people who like to roam about the map, but I think all lots should be useable with a loading screen for people who enjoy the gameplay. I am not even sure how much they would have added to the "hard on the computer" part, because most people had hundred of lots in their game and if a small part of those rabbit holes were actual usable lots, it wouldn't have made a difference, all they needed to do was add the rabbit hole script to smaller objects to be placed on lots in the manner of rabbit hole rugs. They even released the cinema and restaurant in the store, so it really wasn't about being hard on the computer to load a few extra community lots. Personally, I like the way TS4 is set up, I just wish it were possible to edit the neighborhood.

I honestly never had the same hatred for rabbit holes as other people on here seem to have. I actually don't mind them. I like having the option to send my sims off somewhere and focus on others. That said, I think certain things are more fitting for rabbit holes than others. The developers' priories on what should and shouldn't be a rabbit hole seem backwards in a lot of areas. I think this is really evident in Discover University where the parties and social stuff are active, but yet the actual classes are rabbit holes. It should be the other way around.

I hate rabbit holes to say that's the weak point of the sims 3 at least I would better like to have the genious idea from the open carreer in the sims 4 to choose to follow your sims at work or to send them at work à la sims 2 and manage their carreer at home à la sims 3. Fortunately the sims 3 rocks enough to bypass this frustration.
