Actually, it's not the same. The original decision to use a rainbow flag for the gay pride celebration in San Francisco in 1978 was influenced by its previous uses, but the Pride flag is very specific, and each colour has its own symbolism. (Two colours were dropped for reasons of convenience, and other colours are occasionally added - black was sometimes added to the bottom during the AIDS crisis, and black and brown are sometimes added to the top to symbolise racial diversity. The basic six-colour flag is unique, in any case. It's not just any rainbow.)
