I did personally enjoy the base game and it's definitely far better now than when it first came out. For the asking price then? Wasn't worth it, but that sale price is a must. Between all the patches, careers added, world and other things I can have some good fun with base game still. For the asking price, it is a good snag as it's only this price temporarily.
But, since expansions and other packs are still on sale, I would still recommend grabbing one with them being on sale. Expansions always add more gameplay in each series per usual. Can't go wrong with it.
