I think I bought the base game for like $40 (or $20... either way, still much more than what you're saying it's at now!), so yes, it's worth it. :D you can always expand later. It might give you a good idea of what other packs you'd want in the future too. In the longterm, however, I can't imagine playing Sims for too long without at least a few other packs.
