The reality is if you're unsure you should always hold off.
My thoughts though, my sims have a lot of kids and I rotate so I am used to them and no longer have issues managing the littles. If you need a breather sims appear to be better at keeping an eye on their kids and child services don't come as quickly as they used to so they don't have to be as big of a focus as before.
Growing together is about families and family time so even without babies you should enjoy this just fine. Even just for a new world and new items. Up to you.?
