Is IL worth the Full Price Tag

I have yet to get this pack and was just curious. Given all debate of this pack and recent reviews, is Island Living worth the $40 dollar price tag?

**I just want to note that this is a pack I do look forward to playing when I can get it.

  • Oh god no. They way over hyped Island Living. There is little to nothing to do, as everything get's boring pretty quick. No underwater houses, no house boats, no resorts, and everything just seems incomplete. Scuba diving is pretty disappointing, as you can't follow your sims like in TS3 IP. The new careers are just pretty much rabbit holes, except conservationist I guess. Overall, I just felt like I payed for Sulani and the build mode and CAS items. Pretty much a 40$ game pack.
  • Not really, no. The world is gorgeous, I really like the new build and buy items, as well as the clothing and hairstyles, but the gameplay is shallow. It's pretty, but that's about it. The new career is OK, but I've had a few issues with tasks not completing when you work from home. Cleaning up the island is nice, but doesn't truly affect gameplay that much, it's mostly how the island looks, which is a bummer. Also they could've really taken the cultural aspects to another level, but didn't. It all feels a bit incomplete. Again, pretty to look at, but not a whole lot to do.

I'm happy with the price I paid (not retail) for build and buy, but the world itself doesn't add usable gameplay for me. I lasted about an hour in gameplay before I was done and back to the same old ways of living, just in a new and pretty world. I don't play any of the occults so mermaids make no difference, not that I think they have enough features anyway. Might make one in CAS one day if I'm feeling bored, but I don't spend much time in CAS at all.

The biggest annoyance was that I created a new save with only Sulani townies and there was not enough separation from the other worlds. Especially if you want to try and play it somewhat realistically as a remote location with an insular community. So even for Sims, it's not realistic that a retired fisherman who lives off grid and has never left Sulani is going to invite me to Geek Con, or want to go to the rave at The Bluffs. But at least I didn't have Eliza or Katrina turn up at my door like I've seen in some LPs.
  • Too buggy for me. I had higher hopes it would be an improvement on Island Paradise. Ho-hum.
