Is Newcrest inspired by a real place?

This is an old thread but I think I have something to add to it.
I always generally got a southeastern US vibe from Newcrest seeing as I'm from that area myself and while I agree that Newcrest absolutely has a willow creek/New Orleans vibe to it, it also reminds me of Savannah, GA quite a bit. This dawned on me when I visited Savannah earlier this year.
I actually have a theory as to why this is, The Savannah College of Art and Design is (obviously) in Savannah. It has a game design program and I do think it's fairly likely that some of the developers on the sims team went to school there. This is all just a hunch though and I could be very, very wrong. I just noticed some things and loosely connected the dots.
