I was hardly playing the game, but then Seasons added what I was missing. It's more exciting to throw events or visit locations when the season has changed and you do not control the weather. There is a weather forecast, but the seasons can vary a bit from year to year.
And yes, the year passing is perfect when playing on rotation like I do. It's so easy to keep track on aging everyone up on new year's eve :)
PS: If you like to watch some of my "One Year in xxx world" movies - lots of sceneries, each world has unique climate. Link in siggy :)
