Is The Sims ever going to go online again?

I seriously hope not. :?

When you really think about it, The Sims tends to be a rather personal experience. Even in my own house, where I and 3 other people play; no two games are exactly the same. I'm sure someone could figure out some way for us to connect our neighborhoods together or something, but on the whole all I really see from opening my neighborhood for other people to poke around in is a bunch of destroyed lots and dead Sims. After all, it's not THEIR game.

I think that the online options we've had for TS3 are enough for online play since you're only sharing memories and greeting card pictures.I don't mind the in-game messages and the gifting,but that's as far as I want it to go since I want to have my games stored on my computer where I can load up and play off line.

I think rjdreamer53 nailed it for me too. I don't think of the Sims as a group endeavor. It's such a personal sort of experience for me.

A long, long time ago, a BF of mine gave me the Sims Online. I guess we both thought it'd be an expansion pack or something. When I realized it was a Second Life type of game, I lost interest. I never even tried it. I felt bad about the waste of money, but not bad enough to actually try the game. Much later, I learned about some of the stuff that happened in TSO that caused the game to get shut down and felt a lot better about the decision not to play it. If I ever get the urge to go play a game like that, I'll just play Second Life. YMMV of course, OP, and that's fine; everybody likes different stuff. I just don't think we're ever going to see TSO again because of the catastrophe that apparently ensued over the first go-round.

I also would prefer to play my own game although I don't mind being able to post comments while I am playing. The nice thing is I can switch the internet connection off if I want to rather than going nuts because the servers are down and I can't reach my sims.

Supposedly one of the many the reasons why Sims 4 got pushed back was because they had coded it to make it online only and then the debacle with SimCity happened. They can't really manage to make anything have a steady online service (hello Liam!!) so no, I hope to never see them try ever again. I wasn't even remotely happy with what they did on making SimCity online only either.

I play the Sims to get away from social games and if I want to be social in the game, then I can turn on the online features and post to my wall and share pictures and send in game gifts. That is as far as I will go in my Sims game. I want to play to play the game my way and with how many people in a household, I don't want to be restricted to playing 1 Sim during the game because that is how you would be playing, you wouldn't be able to play a household of 2 or more.

I play World of Warcraft and you can only play with one character/toon during your game play and if you want to play another, then you have to log out of that one and log into another character/toon. This is my social game.

If I want to play a Sims online type of game, then I could go download Second Life or UMVU because those 2 games would be just like a Sims online game. So I suggest that you go and download one or both of those to get your Sims Online style play.

Go play these 2 games and then you can see why the Sims should never ever be an online game. And then you can come back and tell us why you hate these games and why a Sims online won't work... :wink:

I don't want Sims as online only because it means I can't get into the game if servers are down or my internet is down and I want them safely on my computer where I can load the game up and play off-line or log in and use in-game social features which is a great addition to TS3 and allow us to choose between playing socially or paying off-line and just sharing it in the forums.
