Is there a way to adopt a child already in game?

Hi! My friend's matriarch died in her baby challenge, leaving a toddler and baby behind. We decided a sim in my game could adopt them, she sent them to me via Sims 4 Tray Importer. My question is, is ...

I'm not sure, but I think with parenthood (or maybe just base game) you can move kids into your sims house and have your sim become their designated care giver. I'm not sure though. I'm just assuming because I saw someone do it with their sims on YouTube.
