Is there a way to de-black the basement level or at least enable the 'q' key to do deeper down?

My current build project is based on an actual building I spent a nice bit of time in during July and many of the sim-able rooms are at what the game considers basement level. While the normal rooms are no problem there is a major one with two of them. The biggest issue is with the open-air courtyard. Looking down from above is no issue but looking up from the courtyard shows only black, not the surrounding buildings or even the sky. The 'q' key goes only part way down. Would like to be able to see in game what I saw IRL. The other problem is with the dining hall, also at basement level. The real one has a massive skylight that lets sunlight into the room. In TS4 all I can see is the usual white ceiling even though I opened the necessary rectangle before putting the transparent roof over it.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Lenny,
Thank you for your reply! Your interesting shot is pretty much what I see when looking into my courtyard from ground floor or above. Yes, when I stand in courtyard all is black. Will try your suggestions as soon as I can. I don't remember the transparent floors tiles but will look again. They might simplify the skylights for two of the above ground rooms. Right now, all I see is a blue hole in the white ceiling while using a roof with the glass roof type.

Not sure what you mean by 'normal' rooms when basement building. Right now, I make a ground level building to unlock the go down to basement arrow, then once there lay out the basement structure. The courtyard is made by highlighting it's surrounding wall, going up to ground, clicking on the yellow outline, and choosing to remove ceiling.

Good job on that sci-fi looking courtyard. It fairly shouts to go there for adventures.
