Is there a way to defense from vampire attack?

Finally I got a chance to use the sim ray to freeze sims. I waited until midnight and an elder F vampire was coming for hunting. I clicked on the vamp, and clicked,"freeze". Suddenly, the vampire gave up sneaking in, then just went back home. Maybe vampires are afraid of it. :D
