Hopefully, The thing is that game studios don't tend to have people work on larger multiple projects like this, when they are getting ready to release a new game they tend to have something called "full production" which is when everything has been decided and they want to focus on getting the new game done. That's when studios tend to be silent, and if they are supporting other games then they tend to not release any major new content because they want everyone to be able to work on their new game and getting it finished. When they announced project Rene during the last sims summit and said that they had 2 more expansion packs planned then I guessed that would mean that they planned to support The Sims 4 for at least two more years and after that they would decide if they would go into full production to finish Project Rene.I know that they have said that they have separate teams, but they are going to reach a point where they are not going to be able to change a lot more and just need to work on creating everything that they have decided to make.

The way they replied with an emoji or something implies that there may be way more content planned for The Sims 4 than some of us have been expecting…also I saw in another thread the awesome @LeGardePourpre stating that it may take even more years for Rene to be ”finished” before being ready for an official release due to the fact that they are going to make it both, a mobile and PC game experience. So maybe what they said is true? :O

To be honest I don't know. They said "years" are left but we don't know how many years. And I don't know if they would produce content for both at the same time. I do however, totally understand how you feel because I don't want ts4 to end either!! There is so much more they could still bring to it! I would be thrilled with another 10 years.Ts5 might actually be a good game but still, that means years of waiting for content all over again. I still have tons to do in ts4 that would keep me busy for years but I would miss the exciting announcements for ts4. And I know a lot of modders and builders would most likely drop ts4 and move to ts5.

Also, I heard from one source that Rene is set to release in 2028. This could be just a rumour, but I kind of hope it is true, because Sims 4 definitely needs way more improvements and the way they just announced the new Behind The Sims Summit and Rene's involvement in it makes me worried that Sims 4 is not going to last for as long as many of us hoped for. I will be very upset if Maxis wants to lose millions of customers willing to pay for new packs for The Sims 4, this time they cannot use the ”we can no longer make more packs for Sims 2/3 because the game has a limit cap for DLC” card as an excuse to end the series. I am not going to be happy at all once Rene is out if we are going to get the same amount of silence for 1-2 years in case they stop making new Sims 4 content before Rene arrives and the base game will be yet another empty canvas for possibilities and potential that could go for a waste.

They said all this like, 2 years ago. So years has happened, realistically. The sims 4 team has already been reduced due to Project Rene, which tells me they are a lot closer to moving everyone over than you might think.

Is this promise about future Sims 4 content true?

I’m ready for a better sims game honestly, I think if the base game isn’t all it could be then the expansions can only add or do much. You got to have good land to grow on. And I like the sims 4 gameplay a lot more now, but at the same time I’m ready for something new. I really hope it’s not until 2028, that’s four more years, the sims 4 will be 14 years old by then. I think the sims 5 will release in late 2025, maybe early 2026 but 2028? I doubt that much longer.

Yeah The Sims 3 was a horrible game experience for me since day 1. When I got my first ever own PC computer it always crashed and I got so angry and upset and I was swearing a lot because the game was so annoying and infuriating with the constant lag and freezing and crashes. Unlike The Sims 4, Sims 3 never worked properly for me, not even on my PC I bought in 2016. Even Sims 4 works better on it than that dumpster fire that was Sims 3.

I get that you're a hardcore Sims 4 fan (trust me, I love it too. I've been playing since day one) but the game will most definitely not run along with Rene/5. The Sims 3 was incredibly successful when 4 was announced and it was still accumulating sales by the time it released but the last piece of new content we got was in the summer of '14. Rene could very well come out in 2028 for all we know but given Maxis' history and its current development time, we're looking at a 2025-2026 release.

Also, Rene/5 isn't gonna be the same experience across all platforms. Grant said that the mobile version will be a lite version of the game, kind of like a companion, so it's not gonna affect development as much as you'd think it would.

It will probably be higher ups and shareholders who would want the sims to reach more people and not wanting EA/Maxis to spend a lot of time making packs that will push Project Rene to be finished. The sims 4 is very dependent on packs to get people to keep playing, if you look at the player count for monthly live players then it goes up a lot when a new pack is released and then it drops down a lot after a month or so until a new pack is released.

And it takes a long time for EA/Maxis to make packs (expansion packs can take over a year according to what the developers have shared) so that's a lot of time they have to spend on a pack instead of making an entirely new game, and then they are spending money on branding and marketing too to make the sims4 stay relevant. They are making money back faster when they make smaller packs and kits, but they don't draw in as many players.

So sure, you are getting money back on the time you spent on making a couple of packs, but you could also spend that time making a new game that will draw in way more people instead of just keeping your existing game alive. And that argument is going to be more relevant depending on how many people that keep coming back for sims4 packs.

Agree. I foresee ghosts, pools and toddlers being in base game but nothing else. They make money on the pets and university packs as expansions, no way they would add them in base game.

I don't see people reacting negatively to Maxis ending support for TS4, we've done it for 3 entries so far it's the norm; and it's really not worth it to boycott the game considering it'll be a traditional sims game like the past 4 games we've gotten. The Sims 5 is just gonna include optional multiplayer for those who wish to play with friends.

I had to look back and it surprised me - Sims 3 had no content since the end of 2013…basically a full year between Sims 3 ending and Sims 4’s launch.

Of course, there was the Sims 3 store, but I thought that at least stuff packs were being made for the Sims 3 in its final year.

So…Sims 4. Will this repeat? As in final content coming out end of 2024 (excluding kits) and Rene being released end of 2025?

I don’t understand your point; can you please help me understand it?

None of Sims 1, Sims 2, and Sims 3 continued beyond the release of the next generation. And by continued I mean gameplay content DLC being published. What makes you think Sims 4 will be different once Sims 5 comes out in, let’s say, 2025?
