You've stumbled upon the beauty of the Sims, in general. The game is what you wish to make it. Nothing weird about wanting more puzzle pieces in place to help you play the family's story the way you wish to. I have a family I've played over and over, multiple times, as others on these forums can attest to. I found myself wanting to experience the new pack released with this family. Then Infants were about to drop, and I was like . . . ah, wait? Now, I have to start all over again? Happily, at that time my potential first couple I wanted to experience Infants with had just graduated from Uni. Seemingly, I was all set. I did have one major kerfuffle with that save. But I did end up starting again, just not as early in their lives as previously. I am happy to report my chosen couple had six children and that's the save I'm playing today. :)
