Is Thorne Bailey Just An NPC?

Thorne Bailey came as one of the famous NPCs with Get Famous. Yet, in this relatively new save, I've only just come across him. He's a Mixologist! I often wondered why he was no longer frequenting the Starlight Accolades Show. I'm gobsmacked. I was totally unaware the NPCs could just change their professions, just like that. Just as an aside, I have NS turned off in my game. So, it's not like he had the opportunity to switch careers. This is just really weird.

Has anyone else had an NPC suddenly switch professions? This would be on the order of Judith Ward choosing to wait tables. :open_mouth:

I had played sims working as service sims, 1oo.

Yes! One of my Sims, Spock of Vulcan, ended up being an Entertainer. When I rotated to his lot, I was able to see he was still a Space Ranger. But, yeah, I think the game just pulls Sims. My singer went back to the Olde Town Lounge and Thorne is still the Mixologist. But at least he's not dead in this save. The main save before this one turned into my new main save, he retired to become a stay-at-home dad, only to end up drowning in the pool because he failed to get swim lessons. So sad.

I just looked it up to double check, and apparently Thorne is a Serious musician as the game is shipped. I could have sworn he was a self-employed music producer, but I guess that that's a Mandela effect.

He is a Proper Celebrity and used to always attend the Starlight Accolades.
  • I've seen unplayed sims change professions once in a while, but it seems to be fairly rare. My suspicion is that, on occasion, unplayed sims are autonomously suggesting to other unplayed sims that they pursue their dream job. I've only ever seen it happen to NPCs who are "on screen" a lot in locations where sims tend to be chatty with each other.

You don't have to be officially employed to be a celebrity or attend the Accolades. I was pretty sure the game only pulled people into NPC roles if they are unemployed. Is it possible that you didn't turn off NS right away and he might have quit his job in the time that it was on?

Anything is possible. But knowing he died in the main save prior to this one, which I started after a game folder refresh, I'm pretty certain I wouldn't have forgotten to turn NS off. Is mystery …

You may just be on to something, you know? Let's hope they don't conspire against all of us players. LOL

Heh, given that we're moving toward expert systems capable of passing a Turing test more quickly than we thought, you do have to wonder if someday we might have sims who are smarter than we may be comfortable with.

If mine were aware of my existence, they'd think rather well of me anyway. I can't bring myself to intentionally harm or kill them, and I'd probably be viewed as some sort of benevolent higher power with an occasionally strange sense of humor. (Don Lothario probably figures his stint as a vampiric prop comedian was some sort of very odd dream.)
  • I have premades constantly showing in NPC roles they are not meant to be in like Nancy Landgraab the massage therapist or Salim Benali the detective or whatnot

I wish they would add ability to assign those ourselves to sim of choice and not have game assigning whatever cause I miss how it was certain sims for certain roles instead of total chaos

MCCC has Rita Coombes, the Class 1 teacher from High School Years down as a Mixologist! One of my created sims turned up as a Mixologist when not playing them once and his job was a barista! It looks like sims can take on side jobs without us knowing!
  • @Brd709 I guess teaching doesn't pay well enough so Rita has to take on a side gig... that's a bit too real
