It’s funny…

I wanted to play today but not my normal family since I want to wait until the new pack tomorrow. So I tried one of scenarios but with a single sim who I used to love to play all the time. But playing that way today was just boring. I actually missed playing with a family. And I never thought I’d be that kind of a simmer. But a family always keeps it interesting. Have your guys playing habits changed over time?
  • I used to only play a single family and started with a married couple

Now I play rotation and never start with a married couple. I find their spouse through gameplay and slow walk into having the family expand. I used to play with aging on long life and now it's off completely. I can't stay with one Sim or one Sim family too long or I get bored now
  • Definitely! I used to play just a single family at a time. I stressed out over how aging would work with rotational play. Playing just one family at a time doesn't allow me to play out all of the stories that I want to play though. Some of my families aren't interested in occult stuff, some of them are. Some of them don't care about having lots of kids, some of them do. Once I switched my head cannon to the mindset that sims aren't humans and ageing doesn't have to work the same way, I have also switched my gaming style.

Now, I really like overlap between different families and don't get too stressed out if NPCs aren't quite the expected age. That being said, I did learn my lesson when I switched from playing a YA sim who had met his soul mate to his parents and brother's household so I could age the brother up to a child and get him ready to be part of the wedding. I must have gotten distracted because the YA's sim soulmate died somehow!

Well yes... at first I played many different families and I thought so many of them were interesting, but now I enjoy more focusing on like only a couple of families and improving those sims. It's like I'm tired of creating new characters all the time. I just want to make some that I play a lot and they have many stories because I spend so much time on them.

Well yes and no. I like playing rotationally because I like to play different families, and I like those families to know other families and interact with them. So, yes I like changing it up because some days I feel like playing a couple with a toddler, another day I feel like playing a couple that like adventurous vacations, another day I feel like playing my farm family, another day I may feel like playing a criminal sim, and yet another day I may feel like playing one of my scenario sims. I have many, many households I can play. So, yes, I like change, but I have been doing that since 2014, so it really hasn’t changed.

I have tried Legacy play, but I don’t enjoy that.

Mine changed with The Sims 4.
The base game was so light I did not want to play families until we had more content.
I didn't start playing families until we got Discover University and also Toddlers and Parenthood, which came earlier. I am also still on my first generation of sims since the game launched. The second generation should happen this year.

I used to only play one household and when that story was finished I’d start a new save with a new story. This time I’m playing rotationally with a mix of original sims and premades and it’s the longest save I’ve ever had. If one sim’s story gets a little old, there are many others to spice the game back up. I like playing
my world instead of just one household much better.
