It's harder to earn money if you only let your sims have jobs. I think it's pretty much impossible to play on normal lifespan and have a couple earn 750,000 + a big house from just jobs. It's the activities like gardening, painting, etc. that make sims filthy rich. If you cut back on those things, you'll have more of a challenge.

5,000/day × 48 (YA + Adult length) × 2 = 480,000.
Several careers at top level gives you 10 000 a DAY. Plus side incomes you basically get even if you don't ask for them, like if you need to up your paining skill you literally have to go into build mode and delete the finished painting or earn like 1500 per painting after a while.
But my main point is that even with this mermaid couple who literally don't do anything but a few batches of fizz a week... they own a 40x30 lot in Sulani full of luxury items and their bills are about 3200 a week (depending on how much fruit they have in their inventories) which they earn in one yard sale per week selling Fizz no problem.

The side things are almost always better money makers so I was suggesting just doing normal jobs if you want to restrict pay since you can't get 10,000 in a day and it takes a while to get to the top of the career at any rate.
My actress made over 11,000 simoleons in one gig, just a few days after an over 10,000 gig. And my top level sims in other careers have gotten so many additional raises that they make more than the guide says.
