I think there will always be players that earn too much money for their sims because of the way they play and I don't think the game should change costs just because of that. They could introduce more costs like for doctor's appointment or medical insurance, or maybe garbage disposal costs, or neighbourhood council costs. I would love a banking system where sims could apply for loans, have separate accounts, wills, etc. Also, I think they could increase the amounts requested for donations in those phone calls. We get one asking for a dollar to increase happiness. Maybe we could get more type of calls, like big donations for the library, school, hospital, neighbourhood watch, environment, stray animals, etc., or investment opportunitites that could earn you some money but could also cause you to lose some money. Maybe rich sims could get the option to buy the Landgraab electric company and set their own electricity prices. I think there could be benefits to the donations, like add a cafe to the library, or an after school program to the school, chose your school's uniform, house calls from your doctor, burglar free neighbourhoods, clean air, no trash piles, no stray animals in your neighbourhood, more fireworks at the festivals, etc. The donations could stack up from several households and they unlock the perks for the whole neighbourhood once the required limit is reached.
I like this suggestion and I am in agreement.
I play a lot of different households and I want some of them to be and stay wealthy, but I would like to add some variability for making losing and spending money. With a rotational legacy, I move money between households. For example, I had a family with a lot of generational wealth just because I had played them for a long time, so I was glad to see that with DU and the ability to divide money as sims move out, I could split that money up. I use those features a lot. I would like more ways to customize how sims spend money and I would like to create some unpredictability.
I like the changes that came with EL but I also freely adjust money amounts if I am wanting a household to maintain a certain lifestyle. That lifestyle could be 25k Simoleons or 40k Simoleons or 5k Simoleons. I have some wealthy households but that's not what my game is all about. My households are all in different circumstances.
