You must look for the trigger that will unlock it. Have your sim inspect them to find the right switch, otherwise the trap will activate. If ceratin skills are high, the more likely is your sim going to find the right switch. The triggers are:
1. Talking head (Charisma skill helps you out)
2. Spinning puzzle with lever (Logic skill helps you out)
3. Four offering bowls (Archaeology skill helps you out)
4. Three skeleton statues in the row (Handiness skill helps you out)
5. A sculputre with four holes (Fitness skill helps you out)
6. Emotional Pressue Plate* (Culture skill helps you out)
*The pressure plate has different emotion choices that can be activated with corresponding emotion.
If sim manages to dodge the trap, they'll increase their skill depending on the trap (Talking head will increase Charisma skill)
This SimsVIP page helps you out. There are pictures of the triggers in this page. (https://simsvip.com/sims-4-jungle-adventure-guide/#TempleDefense)
Good luck!
