About authenticating items for pay: I have two sims with max archeology and both of them get those items sent to them. I noticed that they can authenticate each other's items, and even mail back, but if they mail back an item that was originally sent and intended for the other sim, they don't get paid. Or it was a one-time glitch, I haven't tested it thoroughly, but thought to bring it up as a possible cause. Needs more testing.
As for the food-curse, I cured it by eating two plates of Selvadoradan food (normal, not secret menu), one after another. I think the key is to keep eating even though the sim is full, you really have to eat two plates in a row. No breaks in between, or eating only when the sim is hungry.
