Jungle trekking with pets? And strays?!

So I got both the Pets expansion and the jungle pack this month and I am trying it out now in my main game save and so far I really like it. The jungle thing, I still haven't made judgement on the pets expansion. But I found one problem or more accuratly, few questions regarding pets and strays in Selvadoria.

One of my Sims, after being rejected romantially by a very nice lady she met at the marketplace and believed felt the same way, decided on a whim (mine btw, not hers  ) to befriend and adopt a little orange stray as compensation. A lovely little frisky tomcat who is a delight to all. Only problem, is that the household Sims are going to go exploring the jungle, so I need to know if they can bring the cat with them or if it is safe (or possible?) to leave him behind in the rental cottage (with food of course).

Also about all those strays. I want to adopt them ALL!!!! Yes I know its not possible, but I like to know, the next time I take a family to the jungle, will these same strays be there or will the game generate new ones? Or will these same strays maybe appear in the ordinary neighbourhoods as well (to be adoptable)?

  • You can bring the cat with you. The pet bed, the litter box, the food bowl and the toys are all portable. I usually bring the ones from home with my Sim on the trip, but the vendors in the marketplace can sell you those items.

One word of caution. Before you leave on vacation, visit the vet and buy 4-5 wellness treats from the vending machine. Once you navigate through the jungle, your cat may randomly take off and go play in the woo hoo bushes on the trail that leads toward the temple. If you go for four days, it's a safe bet your cat will get sick from a squirrel bite or something else at least once. And if you have to take your cat to the vet, you just ended your vacation early and there's no refund for lodging.
  • Um...any of that wellness treat awailable at the marketplace in Selvadoria? Because the cat was aquired there and didn't come with them from Willow Creek.

You could edit the bar and add the treat machine to it, I suppose.

    Not that I'm aware of.

Tried adding treat machines to other community lots, no can do. The treat machines don't automatically stock with pet treats so they remain empty when you place them. They're only ever always automatically stocked in unowned vet clinics.

Ah, that is good to know, thanks. I haven't tried to add the treat machine but I do plan on stocking up well on the wellness treat before they go again to the jungle. I'm planning an experiment where they will take the cat and at least one dog with them everywhere in the jungle (leaving them at the rented house is also a possibility) but I like to see how challenging it would be.

The couple went home with the cat AND 3 dogs (and now with the added litter of 2 dogs  ). They will be back to the jungle but I am in the process of having the 3 adult dogs and at least one of the pups moved to one of my other households. I think one cat and one dog is enough to take with them
  • It's fine to leave your pets at your rental villa (with food and other necessities) while your sims are adventuring in the jungle. They will be quite all right. Or your can take them with you, as long as you take along whatever they are likely to need in your inventory, but I found mine an unnecessary distraction, so I prefer to leave them behind at the villa.

What I don't like is the fact that, once you have cleared the vines away from the gates, you pets will go exploring in the deep jungle all by themselves and they can take ages to make their way home again, especially if they are unwell. This will only happen if you rent a villa on the side of the river near the trailhead, though, so if you don't want your pets wandering too far away, it might be best to stick to the villas on the side of the river nearest to the cantina.

  • Can you build a fence at your rental add a gate, lock it so your pet can't get out before you go on vacation in build mode?
