What I like about kits is the possibility of 'new' gameplay for me. Things I might not have tried otherwise. The Modern Menswear kit inspired me to create a Dan Levy sim, the actor who played David Rose in Schitt's Creek. He is now best friends with one of my playable sims and helps her run her retail spa store.
The Goth Galore and Grunge Revival kits inspired me to want to try a new storyline for one of my teen sims. All my teens have been 'good girls' who make perfect grades, have perfect character values, etc. These kits made me want to try something different. A rebellious teen. It's still on my to do list but coming up soon. 😆
For the upcoming kits I have a sim in mind to build a workshop and pursue the handiness skill. A skill I've never maxed in any of my sims. I'm also thinking about a rec center for my senior club members.
So, for me, the kits provide inspiration for existing gameplay I might not have considered.
