I don't mind them selling them because it means I don't get things in my game which I don't want, and for those that I do want, I do not mind spending some money. It also means we get more of it, because there's no way in heck they'd give us for free the total volume of content that exists in all of the kits combined.
We all are having our own culture sold to us with the game...because there isn't actually any free content from EA/Maxis. What we're calling 'free' here is just an update to the base game, and that base game has a cost too. Of course, I'd be happy if they gave us more at no additional cost...much, much more. Who wouldn't?
