OMG there are a zillion answers here already, and too much to read, but as I skimmed through much of what I would have said is there already. Hmmm..
Yes, my grandmother taught me to knit and crochet (and sew) so that to me is a wonderful thing.
I am primarily a crochet-er, so pun wise "happy hooker" (crochet hooks, for those who don't know) lol it won't let me use the bad word.. Hook ... ers
Being able to mail off to a purchaser through Etsy-like interactions.
I could never imagine standing while knitting, or at a desk, though I have at a desk only because the desk was in front of a comfortable chair that I happened to be sitting in?
Definitely I would say knitting would take longer than painting in the game, but maybe not quite as long as writing a book. Definitely something to come back to. Saying that, it would be nice for the half finished project to be in one of those neat yarn bags shown in the concept art maybe?
Crochet projects! Similar to knitting really. I mean the same things can be made, just with different types of stitches, but crochet makes me think Amigurumi!
oh The donation idea: I imagine it was already said - premmies (teeny tiny hats and sleepers etc.) and homeless (hat/scarf/blanket).
oh and knitting clubs? (or Happy Hookers for a crochet club - cliche, but fun)
Sorry. I came back to edit. The gifting idea. Ya, badly made or embarassing gifts as sometimes is the case. not just sweaters. But the embarassed moodlet, or awkward when you get a gift that you really don't like and don't want to hurt the person's feelings.
