@ArcherDK The problem with what you're saying is that the community voted stuff pack and base game mechanics improvements aren't related to the point of "why can't we get X instead of the SP".
There are different teams working on each type of pack, on bug fixes, and on the core of the game itself. The vote had 5 options, none of which would have in any way changed core gameplay as that's not what SPs do. It wasn't a case of "what theme do you want" and people having free reign to answer.
From the forums, even before knitting came up in the vote, there have been players asking for it (and yeah, a wider range of crafts and hobbies) so it's not like it came completely out of the blue either. Obviously it's a theme that's wanted ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
