But what do we label the community lot as for it to function like a laundromat? Just generic? Last time I checked, no other Sims will visit generic lots.

There is no laundry lot type. You can use a GENERIC lot type or add it to a connected bar or café. No sims will use the "Laundromat" except for your played sim that you send there. It will not attract other sims with laundry.

I will create a few Laundromats attached to other businesses that attract sims so my sim doing their laundry will have people to chat with. I have an idea for a café/laundry/bowling alley all in one location, so traffic should be pretty good. But again, only your played sim will do laundry on a community lot.
