Legacy Update Was Heartless

From what I read and based off of my own personal experience:

- When I logged in to play a few days ago the game gave me a long error and stated that I had to download the legacy update to play or it wouldn't run so I did.
- From what I read all my files were supposed to transfer. But they didn't.
- When I tried to look myself up in the official gallery none of my work came up.


The devs for the game won't be updating it or fixing any bugs (for 32bit), so from my understanding if they didn't transfer, there gone forever.

(Them not being in the official gallery reconfirmed that to me, I've officialy been deleted.)


Tbh the game never really ran well on my system, I have an older mac-book so I primarily used it to create and post to the gallery :expressionless: :expressionless: :expressionless:


Someone posted earlier that they were happy that 32bit isn't going to be supported anymore so the devs can focus on making better content. I hope they do. I sincerely hope they do.


I grew up on the Sims and I'm sure everyone here can understand how upsetting it would be to lose every creation you ever made since you first purchased the Sims4. I'm vexed.


That being said I want the game to be good, I want the game to be better, I want the company to give me enough reason to save up for all the luxury purchases it would take for me to play a better version of the game. Despite what's transpired.


I'm upset that they made the call to drop 32bit support primarily because any gamer playing on 32bit instead of 64 is doing so because the extra expense to make the switch isn't a financial priority in their life.

I already paid for the game (as soon as it came out) when I had the funds to do so, I bought the expansions I wanted when I had the funds to do so, I created and posted to the gallery when I had the time to do so (spent 2days before I was erased making a night club). It feels incredibly unfair to take away a major feature in a game that I've long since purchased.

And I honestly don't like the statement the company is making with there actions, because they would of known that something like this at the very least could happen; or they wouldn't need to explicitly state that they didn't intend to fix anything after. Straight wiped their hands of a whole group of people.

In any case if the Sims 5, if there is one, can't or doesn't intend to support inferior systems I hope they say something so I can make an informed decision before I invest my time and money.

Even if you're fortunate enough to run a supported system you should keep in mind; if they're willing to do it once, there's nothing to guarantee they wont do something like this again. I seriously hope they're ready to start making better choices because if video games has taught me anything this is the kinda ish you pull when you need to destroy your map and figure you might as well bleed your citizens dry before starting fresh.

I'm very happy today. DU downloaded to my 14inch small laptop and the game didn't crash as it did last week. It must be the 64bit only change. I have an HP i7, 8 Gig RAM, 250 SSD and only an NVidia GeForce MX130m card. The settings were medium all round but I've changed them to low, just in case! I've got all the packs too!

I've downloaded every update Windows 10 and HP can give me plus a new Bios offered so updates do matter.

Thank You So Much! I've already checked and everything's there, plus the game runs fine. It was really kind of you to go out of your way to do so and I really appreciate that you did :blush: :blush: :blush:

Now at least I can finally play with all of the things I made so I'm not too upset about losing the gallery.

When you go into Origin and have the page open that says Play, click on that little gear icon below it. Another player mentioned that as I was completely at a loss. It will show you if you're still set at 64 bit or not. Hope this helps. :)

Yes, there are many sad and unhappy players out there right now. I think they have a right to feel somewhat abandoned, and cut off from the rest of the community. It's as if EA cut the game in half; before the teams fixed their game issues, and days prior to the release a much-wanted EP. That was a low blow, to say the least. I hope the modding community will continue to support any mods they created prior to this latest update. I think it's the least these players deserve. On the bright side, if there is one, whatever mods a player uses will never have to be updated again. No more hanging out and waiting to see how many mods were borked then waiting for the modders to fix them. I've actually set up an older laptop I have, with the intention of installing and playing the Legacy Edition on. I see there are a few other players planning to do the same thing as well. It will be interesting to see if a community of Legacy Edition players sprouts up, with their own category here on the forum. And the Gallery isn't the only way their builds can be showcased and downloaded. There are several sites always looking for new creators. New Sims are also popular on these sites, so I can already see there will always be a way for the builders and Sims creators to share their creations. I hardly ever use the Gallery these days because of the pre-set photos with trees and roofs blocking the view of what the lot actually looks like inside. There are many sites that would love having contributions from new builders to showcase. Just because EA seemed to just abandon part of this community, that doesn't mean this community will follow suit. I'm going to be playing both versions. In the end, it's still the Sims4.

I agree with you, @Mecholi. What I find particularly infuriating is that, even if we knew that this Legacy Update was bound to happen sooner or later, they never told us when exactly it was gonna happen.
I find this lack of transparency insulting. Now, players like us who can't afford a new laptop (mine is a late 2011 Mac Book Pro that still works like day 1) are stuck with a buggy mess of a game. What are we even supposed to do without access to the Gallery? It seems to me that they are alienating a portion of their own fans without paying attention to our financial and emotional involvement to this game.

No worries about negativity- I 100% came here to vent my disappointment/frustration and felt much better after doing so, (I think it's healthier to vent)

I didn't notice right away because on older laptops the game was a buggy mess so I primarily played it as a gallery creator. But when I went back to assess the damage I found that the game actually runs now, even on my old mac book. (although the settings will only go so high)

I'm still upset about losing access to the gallery :pensive: after all it's how I learned to love and embrace the 4th edition (expanding my page with attention and care)...

So by all means vent your negativity, It's a difficult transition for anyone without the option to run 64bit. Either you already paid for the game, accepted it's bugginess, and embraced/turned to the gallery your no longer allowed to participate in. Or you already paid for the game, it ran well enough, but now your suddenly overwhelmed with a series of confusing and unwarranted technical difficulties.

Vent and Feel Better (and double check to see if the game actually runs now it might take the edge off of things)

I’m frustrated about it because I have an older Mac desktop that runs perfectly well, is 64bit, but non-metal and so I have to run the legacy version. ?
