Since release, I have been playing a regular sim family, just exploring the new world, culture, items, and content available with the game. I have stayed away from mermaids so that I can experience them as a separate household after I was finished with my first household in Sulani. Well the time came. I created 2 mermaid sims to explore that side of the content - and frankly.. I'm confused. I played my two new mermaid sims and was bored with nothing to do after 5 minutes. It seems like the only things to do as a mermaid is free-dive, swim around, talk to dolphins, and perform the mermaid kiss. Is there something I am missing?? Or is there just no content for the mermaids. If this is true I'm actually super disappointed, I was really looking forward to playing as them, but now I feel like there is absolutely no point.If there are some things to do as a mermaid please let me know, I would love to continue to use this household.

Mermaid play appears to be shallow overall (pun intended). Beyond what you mentioned, if you have seasons you can influence the weather and do a few other interactions like talk with fish in bowls or tanks and such. Its less in comparison to vampires in part because there is no building of powers or customizing strength and weakness which is what I think people were desiring. TBH, its not far off from aliens in terms of play with a unique CAS and a few novel abilities.You can do a few things to make things more interesting. I created a private club where being a mermaid is a requirement and activities including mermaid-like stuff like swimming, singing, diving and such. Its fun to start a club gathering then as you will get a group of mermaids to hang out and frolic with.

Its also worth mentioning that some of the mermaid abilities are quite useful buffs like the Siren's Lullaby which is a great way to either buff Sims (especially if you have two mermaids that can buff each other) and remove some negative modlets. Charmer's Lullaby - Removes Embarrassed Buffs and gives a +2 Flirty MoodletInspiring Berceuse - Removes Uncomfortable Buffs and gives a +2 Inspired MoodletAegean's Question - Removes Focused Buffs and gives a +2 Stressed MoodletNight's Requiem - Removes Energized Buffs and gives a +2 Sad MoodletThen there is the Aquatic Lure which makes you fish at a couple of levels higher.Even Siren's Call gives a Sims a stressed moodlet will also refill all of your Sims motives so being a naughty mermaid has its benefits too!

Vampires game play is MUCH deeper than mermaids. As I mentioned above, vampires have the ability grow and as a vampire building your abilities as you see fit on top of weakness that you can develop to make your vampire unique. Not to mention a lore skill specifically for the occult and multiple aspirations that are geared specifically toward playing a vampire. Which is quit the opposite for mermaids making it lackluster in compassion. There is no development or learning of your abilities, no lore skills, no aspirations to pursue...you just are a mermaid. Each and everyone has the exact same abilities with CAS being the only thing that makes you different from every other mermaid in the game. Even the process of becoming a vampire is much more interesting and drawn out over several days as you transform...while mermaids is just eat some kelp and take a swim.

Yeah I'm kind of disappointed with the mermaid content, I was expecting a lot more unfortunately :(

I am not sure what is expected. Mermaids aren't more shallow than vampires, celebrities or ghosts. They are just sims with some bonus features just like the others.

I was kind of surprised there wasn't a similar kind of power system for mermaids like vampires. As @darkchadmeister said, it would have been really interesting to have a mermaid lore skill.

Needless to say I got very sad whilst making this... This pack could have been so much more than what it is and it makes me sad everytime I play with it, especially mermaids! I feel that every supernatural (apart from vampires) needs an overhaul. I'm just not sure how they would do it without annoying people - I fear that they will just leave them half/quarter-finished!! :'(

This. That pack is all about vampires. Which is why all of the budget was spent to them entirely. The world, CAS, Build and Biy and gameplay are buolt soley for Vampires. The same can be said with Celebrities.

Meanwhile, Mermaids is juat a part of the pack/theme. The whole focus is on living on an Island. Every theme has sub gameplay aspect around them. Meaning that the rescources are split into this sub gameplays. Marmaids have to share rescources alongside with other features of the pack, and remember that IL is not about mermaids. Its about living in an Island. Since they are not the focus, I din't expect them to be like Vampires.

The Same can be said with Get to Work Aliens. The pack is not about Aliens, its about Work, so don't expect the alien to be fully in depth since they are not the focus of the pack.
