Update: Made an active, concerted, ongoing effort to get Hungry for Love to see how hard it is lol. Even looked stuff up in the code to see what all gives points for it. And I unlocked Indoorsy with 0 effort made before I could even get Hungry for Love to In Progress. Actually, that's not entirely true. I made some effort to avoid Indoorsy after it unlocked In Progress by spending more time Outdoors and it still unlocked anyway. I finally managed to get Hungry for Love to In Progress, but I'm ready to give up actually unlocking it as a lifestyle.
I'm skeptical as to whether these were even tested beyond making sure they function. It seems clear that statistically speaking, you're just never going to get certain lifestyles unless you meticulously curate your gameplay and use the lifestyle coach to remove stuff you don't want. I would be more annoyed, but this is more or less exactly what I expected when I saw them in the trailer.
And it's not about Hungry for Love, that was just one I wanted to try and was surprised at how hard it was to get. Meanwhile, I unintentionally got Techie to In Progress just from spending a lot of time tinkering and building some parts to try to build one servo (still not even close to building that servo).
I assume (I hope) at least some kind of napkin math was done to calculate how hard these would be to get, but whatever was done, is a mess for the standards you'd expect from a paid game. Also, there's a UI bug where an active lifestyle sticks around as Active in the Lifestyles UI even after removing it.
I'll bet if you took the In Progress system and changed it to a progress bar, you'd see very quickly how off they are. As it is, as a player it's impossible to tell other than through the kind of experience I had because there is no visible progress information. Short of creating a debug tool to log where the stats are at, I can only guess based on how weirdly quickly some stuff unlocks while others take forever, or never do. I feel like I'm testing beta software playing around with these.
