All I hear and see is explaining and telling. The UI is telling you what's going on,
but I have yet to see actual game play of it in action.
Exactly.
If a sim is supposed to be angry, tense, or upset by a situation in any way, the least that I'd expect is for their facial expressions to reflect the tension of the moment. A side-eye. A scowl. Something!
From what I've seen, positive emotions are still overwhelming the Sentiments. As SimGuruGraham tried to explain something that wasn't actually happening on the screen, all he managed to do was to highlight that the emotion system is still broken. I don't want to read about a Sim's visceral response. I want to see it.
Some people may say that I'm nitpicking. However, for me, having the Sims respond appropriately to any given situation is crucial. It is foundational for my kind of gameplay. I don't want to have to pretend, use a mod, a cheat, or a new in-game feature in order for a Sim to react the way that a menu entry says that they are reacting. I really wish that the devs had done some rebalancing while they were adding new features to the existing system.
While I agree with your post, I do think the new sentiments system at least gives a better chance for a sim to show their emotions. Normally your sim would argue and get some negative moodlets which would be overridden and then fade away pretty quick. Now your sim will get a sentiment on top of those and even if one moment the sim is still overwhelmed by positive moodlets and forgets the negative ones, another moment the negavite moodlet might be the one that's most poweful and sim will show the negative emotion. I'm not saying the new system is strong or fixes everything, but it seems to be a slight improvement at least. I wish they rebalanced the emotions too.
