Lighting a Christmas Tree = Fire?

So it just turned Winter in my game. Naturally my sims decided to start decorating for the holidays. I had two of my teen sims decorate the tree and light it, and all of a sudden a notification pops up that there's a fire on the lot! First I checked the fireplace, nothing wrong there. Then I realized it was the Christmas tree! I didn't even know that could happen? Is there a way to avoid it / did I do something wrong? I have the sprinkler system so no one got hurt but still....kinda upsets me because the Christmas holiday / Winter is what I looked forward to the most about Seasons, now I have to worry about there being a fire anytime I want my tree to be lit?!?!

Also irked me because I was getting ready to throw a birthday party but obviously didn't get to get that started until the whole fire situation was resolved.

I don't think you can avoid it, I also had it happen with my first Christmas tree in game. So whenever I'm about to light a Christmas tree, I save first, in case the fire does real damage. That way I can always exit without saving and try again.
  • It happened my first time playing, than it didn't once I fixed everything. I think it has to do with skill, but for what I'm not sure of.

A hidden Decorating skill? Even that sounds ridiculous for a Sims game.
