Lights are always off

I've noticed recently that every time my sims visit someone else's house/apartment, the lights are always off and I can't turn them on. Is this normal and is there a way to turn the lights on? It makes it difficult to see the place and leads to annoying time trying to play.

I've noticed something going on with the lights, too. One of my bedroom's lights wouldn't turn on and would not respond to any command I would give it (turn on/auto light/turn off). I ended up replacing the lights in the room which fixed it.

As for other lots, I haven't noticed it, but I don't visit a lot of other sim's residences (I should do that more often) so I might have not come across it yet. Have you tried going into build mode on the lots that lights don't turn on?

Okay, this makes me think maybe I'm not going crazy. This past weekend in one of my houses I had set all the lights to auto light, but this one room was always lit, or at least so it seemed. I would turn it on then off, then back to auto, and it always looked on to me. I gave up eventually.

Someone else had this problem with their own household, then found the lights were set too dim:

They edited their post which confuses their question with their own answer.

Was this issue with the household they were playing?

Sometimes I have the issue where a light stays on always(when on auto light), usually just reloading the lot works.

I'm not having this issue with my active household. As I say in my initial post, it is happening in the houses of friends and family they visit and I don't know how to fix it.
