Little Things You Miss and Don’t

A thread for little things from previous games that you miss, and things you’re glad they left out/hope stay in the past.

I miss the large paintings from The Sims 3, I know some got resized and such, but I really liked the largest size. I also miss the various painting variations, especially the neurotic neon and computer whiz(I think) pixel.

I didn’t like some of the fame system’s negatives. Most sims didn’t have the supernatural skeptic trait, so why would my sim woohooing a vampire or fairy be a huge deal?

Quality of life content from previous installments (little objects that spice up gameplay, events, etc)

    Magic

    Cars

    Don't Miss

    Create a Style

    Open World

Sims 3 (I wasn't fond of the art style plus it bricked my PC as a kid)

    Sims 3 Memories System

    Zodiac Signs
  • I don’t miss
    - waiting for textures to come in
    - Sims waiting forever to get into the elevator
(I once had a party where no one came up to my apartment cause they were all stuck waiting for the elevator)
    - Empty dance clubs
    - Sims 3 reputation system
    - Bands only getting gigs if you answered the phone and that phone call only happening maybe once a week (how will I ever get famous this way!)
    - Rabbit holes
-My Sims randomly getting pregnant when I switched to another household for just a second
    -sims 2 teen acne
    - how repetitive the ambition careers were
    - Not being able to pick your lifetime goal

    Things I miss
    - FEARS from the sims 2! I miss this the most! Please bring back
    - Mental breakdowns and the therapist
    - Witches
    - University
    - Teens that actually look like teens rather then looking like young adults
    - That kids and teens cold force other people to do their homework for them
    - Attraction system from sims 2
    - Bicycles
    - Teen parties
    - When the cops showed up at a rowdy party
    - Pottery
    - Soccer
    - Sims 2 memories (except not that they would remember meeting every single sim or other small things, that was too much. just the big stuff like weddings and babies being born, and the fact that they might have a negative memory of their wedding - so funny)

I’m sure there is more but those are the main stuff I think about

I miss fairies and genies the most.

I also don’t miss open world. It’s nice not to have to deal with lag because some sim somewhere can’t get into their bathtub or something.

No kidding on the memories thing. I turned them off as soon as I could because I saw the list of things that created memories. “Oh boy you found a rock!”

I look back at sims 3 videos and the faces they made could be really unfortunate.

I miss some cas items, but not how hideously stuff clipped.

I just remembered how I don't miss sims having to have friends as a requirement for their job.

No promotions for you if you're a friendless loner who doesn't like socializing or butt kissing the boss. :#

I miss there being somewhat of a penalty if your sims had a critical low social or pretty much had zero money and would start panhandling.

    - Burglars
    - Home phones and prank calls
    - TS2 style memories
    - TS2's special cutscenes for significant moments in a Sim's life
    - THE IGNORE BUTTON ON CHANCE CARDS
    - Wants and fears
    - Turns ons/turn offs
    - TS2 romantic interactions
    - TS2/TS3 style babies that can be carried around, among other things
    - Children who are taken away by social workers being able to be adopted by others
    - School buses/carpools
    - Private schools/boarding school
    - Cars in general
    - Teaching teens to drive
    - The TS2 alien skintone; I'd love for it to be re-introduced as an option someday
    - University
    - Magic
    - Slow dancing
    - More than three traits
    - A lot of TS3's traits
    - CASt
    - More aspirations
    - Zodiac signs
    - Horses, along with birds and other small pets
    - Opportunities
    - Story progression
    - Physical lifetime rewards that you could actually put in your house
    - The newspaper
    - More careers to choose from
    - Open world
    - Normal-sized telescopes and the ability to get abducted by looking through them
    - TS2/TS3 style Plant Sims
    - Imaginary Friends and being able to bring them to life
    - Being able to just buy cakes for birthdays or weddings rather than having to make them yourself

    Don't Miss:
    - Being forced to work with all 25 personality points and them deciding your Sim's zodiac sign for you
    - TS3 style memories, how you could get a memory for every little thing, and how they would actually take up space on your save file
    - The "room" meter
    - Having to purchase a lifetime reward in order to change aspiration
    - TS3 style punishments. Getting grounded keeping kids from even going to school? Seriously?
    - Punishment and scolding being a completely autonomous action that you could not cancel
    - Creepy ice cream trucks stalking your household; It would've been better if they would just show up while out in parks or something
    - TS3 zombies
    - The neighborhood being automatically populated by expansion and patch content
    - Unplayed Sims autonomously becoming supernaturals beyond your control
    - Accessories being attached to hairs and outfits rather than being separate

Agree with basically everything in your lists. Few remarks:

    • lifetime rewards can be changed by using testingcheats; personally I like the challenge to really having to think that one through before I choose
    • for those encountering it: apparently grounded kids can actually go to school when the parent takes them (as a group), which is in fact sort of logical
    • there’s a toggle that prevents sims from autonomously becoming supernatural, with one exception (mermaids)

Apart from that, nothing to add. Well, one: I miss rabbitholes being buildings in 4. For me that adds immersion. A sim just disappearing doesn’t work for me.
