I would say live (rhymes with give) mode - coming from the fact that you are playing your sims to live their life.
and I would say live (rhymes with hive) broadcast as it is happening now, hence live (hive)

I always said it "live" like "alive" but I can see how live rhyming with give makes more sense. When I said Live Mode I assumed it was like "in real time" this is the "live" game as opposed to the frozen game build mode puts you on. The problem with that is you can pause "live mode" which isn't something you can do when you're doing something "in real time" I feel like if you call it "live" like rhyming with "hive" it then takes on the same kind of definition as "live television" or "livestream" because of how it's worded instead of the word live meaning they are alive.

I don't know if that makes any sense.

That is why I always have and always will call it live (hive) mode.

Well, that and the fact that live (give) mode just sounds too ridiculous for words.

But sims live (give) in live mode and they buy in buy mode and build in build mode.

Have you ever been to a live concert? Was it live (give) or live (hive)?

That's completely different because in that situation it means they are live (hive), as in they are performing right then and there rather than being pre-recorded. But if I watch someone who has recorded themselves playing the sims, it's still called live mode. Granted it's unique for it to be called live (give) mode because the name comes from the fact that it's a life simulation. Examples in real life aren't going to work the same.
