In my country we have "The 1st May" - the day of love. It is spring, obviously, and it makes sense IMHO to have love day in spring since everything is in bloom and it looks wonderful, the birds are singing, etc. So romantic. And the best thing is it is not commercial at all. You are only supposed to kiss your SO under a blooming cherry tree. Next level romantic. Valentine's day can dig a hole, jump in it and let the dirt back in so it can't ever get out.
