I didn't notice my sims' personal inventories slowing things down. I think the game doesn't even load the inventories of sims other than my current household anyway.
But my legacy family has many collectables stored in different crates (the ones that came with Eco) and their lot lags badly. Since this is my only laggy lot I assume the crates' inventories are to blame.
