I don't ever recall playing one of the previous iterations thinking, "Hmm it stinks that I can't make my sim the exact shade of brown my skin has.", I was more worried about my sim going to work and getting a chance card where they would lose their job or getting robbed or a fire starting on my lot without me having any alarms. But hey different times and different strokes I guess. :disappointed:
I feel like that beefy gameplay we miss so much got replaced with the "Look at me and who I am". It's all about making your sim or sims in your game represent you and what you identify as or with now. And though that's great and all, we're missing the point of the sims as a game. All of this representation and identity has changed what the game began as it's no longer fun anymore. I would have enjoyed a nice balance of identity, of course, however, this all has been extremely overwhelming.
I don't think the lack of beefy gameplay has anything to do with the current rush on representation. It's just that both were severely lacking from the start. Remember how the basegame didn't even have pools or toddlers, yet? We still don't have robbers. There's hardly any challenge in this game. That's a separate issue that needs to be fixed, but it doesn't have to be either/or. We can have both. They can work on representation and add meaningful gameplay at the same time. The budget for the free updates has increased and the fact that they're also improving traits and adding sentiments means they're taking other complaints about the game serious, as well.
My biggest fear would be if we asked them to stop with the representation updates that, that part of the budget would just slide back into the pockets of EA's ceo. In that regard, I'd rather have another curly hair I won't use, than if they stopped entirely.
