Seems to me many more groups are represented than you seem to claim.
I'm sorry but trying to say this game is representing all other types of people in this world that fall into particular categories, is laughable, but I'm not laughing I'm sighing. LGBTQ community is real people. They are represented. A place with snow caps and a place to ski is geographical and has little to do with representing actual Japanese traditions or old traditions still practiced by many. Look at how the community (some) threw a fit and they had to nerf a practice of bowing in front of an object. Just saying Windenburg (geograpical of landscape and some minor architextural buildings) and just lumping all of Europe into one big pot is not representation. There are theFrench, the Italians, the British, the Irish, the Scottish, the Germans, the Russians, and on and on and just saying Europe is represented because they built Windenburg in an EP is hardly the same as the people of those countries and their long held traditions. There are no disabled people, no religious people or any other type of people who get as much as the LGBTQ community have been promoted. Fantasy is not representation of real people, it's fantasy because no I don't think too many of us out here are ghosts, or vampires, or have some magical powers or even from another planet, but might claim to be. Simself is hardly anything but building a trans Sim.
How is non flirty supposed to be about LGBTQ? Can't people be flirty with the person of their choice rather than have to be non flirty in order not to stray from being gay or lesbian? But if that is true and was meant to satisfy a request from the LGBTQ community, then that also reaffirms all the promotional efforts Maxis has been doing over these past seven years and not a word about the disabled and or anyone else of any type of religion practice and or belief other than the scarf for fluff.
I agree with this. There is barely any representation in the sims 4 that isn’t aesthetic.
Take for example Sulani. They made a huge deal about how Sulani is based off real life culture and I’m sure it is. The culture in the game is limited to clothing, a few food dishes and that’s it.
There is a cultural dance but surprise, surprise, it’s the exact same fire dance from Get together. That’s not culture. That’s playing dress up and using your imagination.
In the sims 2 Bon voyage there is three vacation spots with their own dance, greeting, food dish and certain personality’s will get on better there than others. In some of the cultures in the sims 2 they will find it offensive if you use a greeting from another culture on them.
Sims in Sulani and the vacation world that introduced the culture skill which is tied to that world only act the exact same as sims in other worlds.
There are plenty of games that use real life locations in their game and they capture the essence of the culture very well. Sims 4 is like “change their outfits and that’s it done, the player can imagine the rest” The world in Snowy escape is pretty in places but I don’t feel like I’m playing in a Japanese inspired world. Part of that is because when you see Mortimer Goth everywhere it takes you out the moment somewhat.
If Windenburg is a nod to European culture then Maxis take it from me, as a European you failed.
Non flirty to my knowledge wasn’t added as a nod to the LGBTQ community. It was added as part of City Living.
Maxis can’t represent everyone in this game. They know that. The will represent the LGBTQ community because it makes them look good. They certainly can’t show off the awesome game play the game has.
