They know we want gameplay. Cars or better babies would have been great for the 5th Anniversary, even burglars or something people have been asking for years.

Gifts have tended not to include gameplay, though: consider the holiday packs over the years or the Caribbean pack, or the recent Pride update. These are the most analogous to what we will be getting next week.

I consider the ghosts, pools, basements, gardeners, repairmen, toddlers and terrain tools to be restorations of missing elements. To their credit, the Sims team recognized these should be given back to us for free, if belatedly. Therefore, I have hope we’ll get some more of those elements in future, like burglars and firefighters, or improved babies.

But they’ve never given us something like that as a gift, or when we were expecting it. I am just happy to be getting free things — they’ve always been nice to have. And if you compare the free gifts we’ve been given in TS4 with the few paltry free things that came from the TS3 store (a hat, a dress, a lamp, a painting, and only a few decor objects on holidays), we’ve been lucky.
