Maybe the "new Sims experience" could be optional multiplayer a la Stardew Valley.
definitely unrealistic but what would everyone's feelings about that be?

EA Land did not require the subscription and was even free to play. It lasted 6 weeks. It was actually the best of the Sims online games and people did not like it. The most players Sims online had was 2000 - not acceptable at all by EA standards whose multi-players are in the millions.
Regardless - I don't care to play that kind of sims game. I tried all 4 - did not like them at all - never mind never seeing hardly anyone else moving around in the game. The sims online is nothing like the regular sims. Nothing at all.
Look at it this way - until they can make a game exactly like Sims 3 where I have full creativity and my choice of worlds and sims and all life stages and I can play 300 characters if I so choose - and make that multiplayer with out that horrid porting (like Showtime had) - then I am not interested. Sims online with nothing to do but skill, online pay for every thing, no creativity, no designs of my own, no emergency cheats if needed - and no full control of my game - then they can forget it. It is not a game I want to play. Look at this game I hated it until all life stages were in the game - I still am not happy there is no transportation or my fav supernaturals still do not exist. But it has some fun moments - none of which I want to play with others during the fun - but give us the freedom to have a full fledged sims game like sims 3 open world and all, and all the choices and creativity in that game - I might listen - until then - NOT interested.
