Mentor Trait?

I noticed this the other day and thought the same, would also like to know as it seems a bit pointless.

I wonder the same thing. Seems like a waste of points to me.

I wish this trait allowed sims to mentor before reaching level 10. Like if they reached level 5+ or something. That isn't what it does, I'm just lamenting the missed opportunity. As is, it feels pretty useless and I never buy it for my sims.

I'm currently trying to see if it increases the effectiveness of mentoring other sims or whether it actually does nothing, feedback appreciated.

It actually adds to other bonuses. At least in my observations.
I find it EXTREMELY useful for leveling up certain skills.
It's not too expensive, either.

I think the Mentor trait relates more to skills than to careers. Unfortunately, only a few traits are affected, mostly creatives (painting and instruments) and I think also Logic and Fitness(?).

It seems so pointless

I use it quite a lot, for my parents to mentor their teens. The teens get a "expertly mentored" bonus trait (or something along those lines), and they seem to build those skills much quicker than usual. It does only seem to work for specific skills, like logic or fitness, or musical instruments though.

Yeah, what asimbsim said is correct. Any Sim can mentor another Sim after skill level 10 but no trait bonus is passed on from the mentor unless the mentor trait is used. Someone can test it but from my experience the mentor trait has purpose. The parent needs the mentor trait for the child to get the expertly mentored bonus trait.
