I have the issue with the stinky fish symbol, as well, even though my mermaid's hydration bar is full. It usually goes away on its own, but it can take a while. Once, she slept in the ocean and when she woke up in the morning, her hydration bar was completely empty. Even using the UI Cheats Extension mod to right click on it doesn't get rid of it.
