My first time through I had no idea we could choose more than one core class. I started them off with a core and an elective. I was also playing (experimenting) with a new mod that turned my game upside down. I ended up removing the mod and started all over again. That meant the siblings were back in their parents' home as teens. This time around, I was armed with better knowledge and they each took three core classes. Two of them, the eldest son and the third son were on scholarships that required they join and stay a part of a sports team. Aaron, the eldest joined the Soccer Team, Joey, joined the E-Sports team. Erik, the middle son already had a great career as a singer (Rock Star). Juggling his concerts and photoshoots was an interesting experience.
Then I found another mod. I decided I was unhappy with the way things played out with Erik's career. When I first got Road to Fame, he rose up the stardom ladder as a Teen. As a teen, he was able to throw concerts, and his image was wanted on the cover of various magazines. For some odd reason, the mod was malfunctioning. He could do neither until I aged him up to YA to go to uni. I missed the side perks so much it spoiled my fun.
With the new mod I found, I started all over again. I kept the kids as teens and after they got to summer in my game, I had them quit school, to give them a summer vacation. Then I had the eldest apply for scholarships. Two days later, I aged him up. I waited two days and did the same for Erik. Wash, rinse, repeat thrice more. I sent five YAs to the same university and they lived together in the same dorm. All five took three core classes. I got them started on their homework during the weekend prior to the term beginning. If they had term papers and/or presentations, they got to work on those, too. That way when the first day of the term rolled around, they started off slightly ahead of the game. Then it was all about keeping up with the daily homework, and making certain a presentation was given after 8 AM on any day M-F, either before or after their first class.
My advice, find your rhythm. And if you're unhappy, by all means start all over again. Think of it as being a writer. Oftentimes a chapter has to be revised, or flat out rewritten from scratch. No shame in it. Do what makes you happy. During our Coronavirus crisis, the last thing anyone needs is to become stressed out. Also another tip is to make sure your Sim(s) is either taking notes (my favorite) while in class or at the very least 'actively listening'. My five just graduated all with honors. The highest grades were A+ (the first four got straight A+ all four terms) and the last one got a B on her first class but A+ on the other two. It was her first grade under an A+. Have FUN.
