Speaking of weather, that's another good reason to back up frequently; if you're in an area with thunderstorms and you don't have your computer plugged into some sort of surge protector, your system could get fried by a stray bolt. So not just your Sims files but anything else important like bank records, pictures, etc. (Meant to check Amazon on Prime Days for a deal on external drives but forgot; maybe local stores on Black Friday.)
