I have been toying with the idea of removing all my mods (and CC if I have any). They are all at least 2 years old, some may work, but I'm not sure. I know I have some script mods that don't work and have them turned off in my game.Has anyone ever done this and what could be the worst thing that could happen?Would it break my game, or just mess up saves that use those mods (or CC)?

I believe as long as you remember to delete your localthumbcache.package, your games should be okay. Make a back-up of your saves folder, then remove the Mods folder, delete the localthumbcache.package and try to play the game save of choice. If something is 'missing' you'll know it was mod-related.

I remember there is an issue with removing one of Zerbu’s mods pertaining to changing worlds to residential or destination.

Exactly what @Rouensims said. I messed up a save recently taking out a world change mod. I'm still in the process of rebuilding my worlds.Other then that I have taken out and put in script mods and cc almost on a daily with zero issues. But always keep back ups, save sims to gallery and important houses.

What @SimsLady2000 said about MCCC -- taking out the mod could mess up the game depending on what settings you messed with.Another way you could do it is a "clean folder install". First, back up the folders you want to save -- saves folder definitely, and also Tray if you have a lot of houses/Sims you've created or Gallery content you've saved. (It's also a good idea to back up those two folders frequently, just in case something goes wrong with either the game or your computer. They don't take up much space unless you have a huge Tray folder, so just a little flash drive should work fine.) If you're still going to use MCCC, make sure to also backup your mc_settings.cfg file -- that way you don't have to manually reset everything. Then, in My Documents/Electronic Arts, change the name of The Sims 4 folder to something like Sims 4 Old.Start the game; the game will generate a new The Sims 4 folder in My Documents/Electronic Arts.Quit without saving and go back to the Electronic Arts folder; you'll see the brand new folder plus your old one. Move your backed up saves and Tray folders into the new The Sims 4 folder, and redownload/install any mods you still want to use. You can then delete the Sims 4 Old folder. Best practice is to check/update mods whenever we've had a patch; there's usually a post over in the Modding/Custom Content forum that's organized by the awesome @luthienrising B) Script mods almost always need an update (though if it's mostly adding content, like the recent skin tone/Hispanic Heritage patch, they'll be fine), tuning mods might not if there are no code changes that affect them. Just hold off on playing until your most important mods are updated -- for me that's MCCC and UI Cheats Extension. (I use the waiting time to build/remodel or to create new Sims or give older ones minor makeovers in hair/clothing.) Ditto if you use CC (like skin overlays, custom hair, etc.) which is why I'm holding off on that sort of CC until I know there'll be no more game updates.

I have also moved my Sims 4 folder out and let the game build new ones then just moved my saves and tray file in. If you have all packs in your game, I would only suggest that you get these two to fix gameplay issues: leroidetout_should_stop_organization_error.ts4script and Louisim_FixFreelancer.ts4script. Both of these fix bugs that EA has not addressed yet. They do not modify your game in any way.

Keep in mind that if you use MCCC and you changed things like aging, taking it out will cause some of your sims to age up immediately and such other tragedies.

You should actually remove LeRoiDeTout’s mod. This is from their Patreon:
should_stop_organization_error - fixes a new current bug from the 1.66 patch relating to University organizations
Note for 1.67 Game Update: it appears as though this bug was fixed. Please remove my mod if you have updated your game.

Don't have MCC - still haven't removed my mods yet. Too nice out this weekend.

Okay, I removed my mods. Actually I took the mods folder out of the TS4 documents folder and dragged it to my desktop. So far I've just gotten one notice that 2 items aren't available for one of my saves and I can't even figure out what they are.

So far so good.
