I would strongly suggest evicting. Then just to be on the safe side, go into build mode to check the house right afterward. The whole process should take about 2-3 minutes, and if there's any problem, you can exit without saving (just be sure you saved right before you do this).
I mean, I'm confident in telling you that this will work, but I'm also a stranger on the internet, and you have no reason to trust me, so you should definitely test it for yourself! :D
I would also double-check to make sure you don't have neighborhood auto-populate (it might be called something slightly different?) selected in your Options, because if random people move into the house after your family is gone, that could change things.
