That and there's so much misinformation being spread about this bed it's not even funny. If they are fully upgraded, they do not break. That's all there is to it. No deaths, no mishaps. Once they are upgraded, it stops. I have tested this for many many days in my own households just to see if some of the things I've read regarding the fully upgraded ones still malfunctioning are happening in my saves, they aren't.
Why not buy a handiness book and learn the first upgrade in a new household with an unskilled sim? Get the first upgrade done to make it break less often if it's a concern. That's a start. Or nap on it instead.
I don't know why it has to be "toned down" or why those of us who paid for it have to go off and find a mod to have it back when the inevitable happens. Don't completely remove our options for beds to possibly kill when there are plenty of in game options to ensure it doesn't break or kill. They are working exactly like they were advertised.
I have tested it, tested it again, and tested it some more. I have had a total of zero Murphy deaths in a household of 14 sims with the partially upgraded and fully upgraded beds. They autonomously repair and upgrade them too, or maybe it's just the ones with the Family Oriented trait because I have a sim that goes around fixing and upgrading them on his own.
But for goodness sake, leave the beds as they are. It's on the player to take measures if they don't want accidents.
