This is one of those glitches that can actually work for your game, if you want it to. I rather like the thought of incompetent aliens who don't know how to fully blend in.
In this case it is possible this was caused by an incompatibility with a mod, or just a hiccup that should be taken care of by repairing the game. But if it were me....I'd keep it.
